Heartburn or pyrosis is a painful or burning sensation in the esophagus, just below the breastbone caused by regurgitation of gastric acid. The pain often rises in the chest and may radiate to the neck, throat, or angle of the jaw. Heartburn is also identified as one of the causes of chronic cough, and may even mimic asthma. Despite its name, heartburn actually has nothing to do with the heart. It is so called because of a burning sensation of the breastbone where the heart is located although some heart problems do have a similar sensation to heartburn. Compounding the confusion is the fact that hydrochloric acid from the stomach comes back up the esophagus because of a problem with the cardiac sphincter, a valve which misleadingly contains the word "cardiac" (an adjective referring to the heart) in its name.

How to Get Rid of Heartburn For Real

For those of us who have suffered in silence for months and even years. the big question is how to get rid of heartburn. To start with, it seemed simple enough. We did what we had been taught to do. We turned to the medical profession. Of course, we all love our family doctor. But having heartburn has taught us not even the medical profession knows everything. This begins to dawn on us when visit after visit and script after script gets us absolutely nowhere. We end up paying and paying without seeing any results. Okay, to be fair there are some medicines that work but only mildly and short-term. This is just not good enough for a condition that can only be described as chronic.

So, how to get rid of heartburn remains one of the biggest mysteries. There is one individual who suffered for years. He had all the horrible symptoms that cause pain and embarrassment. He knows what it feels like to be having a conversation and constantly burping. How embarrassing is that? He knows exactly what it feels like to have to apologize for not finishing a meal at a dinner party because bile is burning up his chest and throat. This is regarded as just plain rude. He also knows how it feels to worry and worry because the symptoms just won't go. Out of desperation he began his own research.

He was driven by years of torture to find out how to get rid of heartburn. The end result is that we can all know there is a way. And the cherry on top is we don't have to rely on pharmaceutical companies. Nor do we have to keep making appointments to see a doctor. It's only once we start taking responsibility for our health that we can come with answers. It may take some time and effort but compared to all the pain, embarrassment and being left out of social gatherings it's worth every second.
